Role Summary

The Azure Cloud Architect will lead the strategic design and implementation of our enterprise cloud infrastructure as we undergo a comprehensive digital transformation from on-premises colocation facilities to Microsoft Azure. This senior-level position is responsible for architecting scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions that will modernize our global helicopter operations and maintenance systems. The successful candidate will serve as the technical thought leader driving our cloud-first strategy while ensuring seamless migration of legacy systems with minimal operational disruption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Strategy & Architecture: Develop and execute comprehensive Azure cloud adoption strategies, designing enterprise-scale architectures that support helicopter operations, maintenance workflows, and global fleet management
  • Legacy System Migration: Lead the assessment, planning, and execution of migrating on-premises legacy systems to native Azure services, including infrastructure, applications, and data platforms
  • Infrastructure Design: Architect highly available, disaster-resilient Azure environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, supporting mission-critical aviation operations across multiple regions
  • Security Framework: Design and implement comprehensive cloud security architectures including Zero Trust models, identity and access management, and compliance frameworks aligned with aviation industry regulations
  • Application Modernization: Guide the transformation of monolithic applications to cloud-native microservices architectures using Azure container services, serverless computing, and API-first designs
  • Cost Optimization: Develop and implement cost governance frameworks, right-sizing strategies, and Azure resource optimization to maximize ROI during the digital transformation
  • DevOps Integration: Establish CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and Infrastructure as Code practices to accelerate deployment cycles and improve operational efficiency
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with business leaders, operations teams, and IT management to align cloud initiatives with helicopter operations requirements and strategic business objectives
  • Technology Evaluation: Research and evaluate emerging Azure services and cloud technologies to continuously enhance our aviation technology stack
  • Team Leadership: Mentor cloud engineers and developers, establishing best practices and architectural standards across the organization
  • Governance & Compliance: Implement cloud governance policies, monitoring frameworks, and ensure adherence to aviation industry standards and regulatory requirements, to include ISO 27001, ISO 27017 and EASA Part-IS

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

Required Experience

  • 8+ years of enterprise architecture experience with 5+ years focused on Azure cloud platforms
  • Proven track record of successfully migrating complex on-premises infrastructures to Azure, preferably in regulated industries
  • Experience with large-scale digital transformation initiatives, including legacy system modernization and colocation-to-cloud migrations
  • Strong background in enterprise application architecture, data architecture, and integration patterns
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Well-Architected Framework and enterprise-scale landing zones

Technical Expertise

  • Azure Services: Expert-level knowledge of compute (VMs, App Services, AKS), storage, networking (VNet, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway), databases (SQL, Cosmos DB), and analytics services
  • Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep, and Azure Resource Manager
  • Security & Compliance: Deep understanding of Azure security services, identity management (Azure AD / Entra ID), Key Vault, Sentinel, and regulatory compliance frameworks
  • DevOps & Automation: Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, PowerShell, Azure CLI, and automation frameworks
  • Monitoring & Operations: Expertise in Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and operational excellence practices
  • Hybrid Cloud: Knowledge of Azure Arc, hybrid connectivity options, and multi-cloud strategies

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
  • Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400)
  • Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500)
  • Additional relevant Azure certifications

Industry Knowledge

  • Understanding of aviation operations, helicopter maintenance systems, and safety-critical environments (preferred)
  • Experience with manufacturing or transportation industry cloud migrations
  • Knowledge of IoT platforms for aircraft telemetry and predictive maintenance solutions
  • Familiarity with aviation regulatory requirements and data governance standards

Location Requirements

  • This is remote work position based anywhere in Poland working Monday through Friday
  • Eligible to work in Poland (citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work visa)
  • Available for after-hours support and emergency response as needed
  • Willing to travel within Poland for remote site visits (typically 15-20% travel)
